I know there are some that are so-so about their birthdays, others enjoy their birthdays and then there are some that take it over the top. Hmm... guess where I fall in?!
My dad loved his birthdays and from him I have learned to embrace and love this day. It isn't about the gifts, it is about spending the day (in my case days) with the ones that mean the world to me, the birthday cards and passing out treats/tokens. It also is about the day that was created just for me, it is my day, a day that I can eat as much cake as I want with lots of frosting. My family knows my piece of cake always has to have an extra flower frosting on my plate.
I can't remember when I started passing out treats/tokens, but I realized that handing out a treat/token on my day was the smile I received in return was my gift.
Now for the announcement of the winner for the year subscription to FOLK magazine. Umm... my assistant not only picked one, but two winners!

Happy Birthday Joyce! What a beautiful post and tribute to your Dad. I LOVED the cake photos, the buttercream roses look VERY VERY delicious and happen to also be my favorite. I would eat all the roses off any cake if I could!
