With Thanksgiving next Thursday and your table surrounded with family and friends, the only person knowing his spot is Mr. Turkey. I thought this would be the perfect time to share some place card ideas.

Placecards are one of my favorites for the tables. Sometimes I use the place cards as the party favor too. I either shop for my place cards , make them or simply use nature to lend a hand.
If you have time on your hands, you can kill two birds with one stone (no pun intended), by using napkins as place cards. Pick up inexpensive napkins and stamp your guest's name on them.

If you are handy with the computer create your own cards with border or without, using a nice heavy weight paper/card stock, you can print your guest's name on the card. Or handwritten is nice too.

In the photo below the place card also serves as the menu.

Bringing a little of nature to the table adds a special touch and a great reminder of the many bountiful blessings we have surrounding our feet.
Find the perfect leaf outside and write your guest's name on it. Those little left over pumpkins from Halloween would be perfect sprayed in gold, or silver adding some glitz to your table as you show your guests where to sit. There is something elegant seeing a pear at each placesetting, attaching a small paper with their name on it, with a string, ribbon or decorative pin.
This beautiful cone filled with season flowers hanging from each chair with your guest's name would also make a wonderful favor to take home.
The stainliess steel placecard holder from Crate and Barrel is a perfect price for under two dollars. The word stamp cube placecard holders by San Francisco artist Rae Dunn says it all and would be a perfect touch on your Thanksgiving table. You can purchase them at Baldwin & Company These little cuties would be a great parting gift, snap a Polaroid photo of the day, place a picture in each cardholder for your guests to take home?

Super helpful as I am having 15 for thanksgiving dinner and was trying to find some good ideas for name holders. I love the cubes.
Joyce, you are so full of wonderful, creative ideas. I love this post! Thankfully (hah! No pun intended) we'll be guests at our son's house. Isn't that a wonderful thought? But he loves to do stuff like this as well, so I'm going to show him your post.
ok- my fav are teh stamped napkins- so personal and crafty! JUST love those.
I love the idea of placecards and these are so beautiful. Too bad anytime my family is together it's never as organized as this. It's more grab a plate and hunker down were you can. But still always fun.
Oh, if you lived a bit closer, I would simply ask you to come and help set my table as you have some lovely ideas. I am leaning towards gold or silver for pumpkins...with name tags!
These are all just lovely, Joyce!
I don't mind at all if you link to it - I think it is such a wonderful idea to mail it to your family who can't be there. So sweet! :)
Fun post Joyce! I have done the mini pumpkins in the past. Now that Ron & I are empty nesters we do very casual T-G dinners (sort of like what Kwana is talking about) then have dessert over at our daughter Niki's house. My favorite part of our Thanksgiving tradition is the after dinner walk! I love how Niki and her family now do this. Please come and join us!
Thanks always for your kind and comforting friendship.
These are all great ideas!
Thanks for letting me know about the comment form. I don't know why the embedded style doesn't work very well. The brown in the pic is seaweed, taken in July. It's in the fifties now.
What a great blog you have here :)
Thanks for all the tips! You are so talented and I'm definetly going to use some of your ideas for thanksgiving and christmas! I love the little pumpkin!
thanks!!
what a fun collection of place cards.
Last year, my little nieces wrote all of our names on leaves that they'd found in their yard.
