Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving dinners usually includes a tradition recently started or carried over from family to family. When my family gets together, we start with a special prayer and then everyone takes turns around the table to say what they are thankful for, including the little ones.

At
Paper Source you will find these little thankful card and envelopes. Great as place cards, or have your guests fill in their thanks and read them during Thanksgiving dinner or dessert.

Another idea I came across is where the hostess prints out beautiful quotes and tapes them to a glass and each person around the table reads what their glass says.

This tradition from Ms.Tee at
Delightful Home made my heart dance, it involves a Thanksgiving journal. At the end of their meal, they open their journal and take turns writing something they are thankful for during the year, then they sign and date it. Once everyone has had a chance to add their thoughts in the book, they go around the room and read each other's quotes. I love, love… this idea because the journal becomes a keepsake passed on down for the future to read the past.

If you don’t have a tradition it isn’t too late to start one.

Oh, I really like the beautiful quotes on the glasses, what a wonderful idea! And the photos you chose about the journal are so pretty. I'm so glad you liked the idea. ;)

I'm with Ms. Tee, the quotes on the glasses are sweet. But Joyce, looks like lots of effort. We have in the past just gone around the table speaking out what we are thankful for. Wouldn't it be nice if we did it every day?

Have a lovely day friend!

I love the idea of having everything take a moment to really think about what they are giving thanks for.

This year I'm thankful to still have a job when so many are losing theirs and thankful for a home that is so comforting to come home to.

Lovely ideas!

We, also, go around the table saying what we are thankful for.

We also always pull crackers(the English ones that explode with little goodies and crowns to wear) It would be neat if we could somehow incorporate what we are thankful for into that ceremony.

we are not big with the thanksgiving traditions bc it tends to be on the tense side when we visit my folks every year. Now if we had it here we would have so many! hmmm... maybe we should do something here before we go. I am feeling like we need a thanksgiving tradition. I like an idea i heard last wk about writing what your a thankful for and folding up a paper in a jar and reading them all at thanksgiving.
